Welcome to volume 3 of the Stooge Book of Klunk. I’ve long held a huge affection for the Tracker bikes that ruled the roost in post war Britain, with their huge handlebars, kinked top tubes and dirt action attitude. This is my great ‘what if?’. What if the Trackers hadn’t died their natural death in the 1970s and continued to develop into mountain crushing, trail slaying, utilitarian ultra beasts?

So this is my tribute to those fabulous bicycles from that bygone era, bought bang up to date with slack Stooge geometry, clearance for 29+ rubber and all the mounts for those far flung adventures in the misty eyed valleys and peaks of the now. Based on the original Dirtbomb, but with the tank tube removed and a newly designed biplane fork to offer more strength and compliance with an increased offset, this thing rips with the best of them, but like all my steeds will also be the perfect partner for someone that just wants to go for a ride, wherever that may take them. This bike is an absolute passion project for me and something that excites me to the very core.

3 fabulous colours that time travelled all the way from the 1970s – Duster Blue, Rose Tinted, and Sand Rover.

1 size – 18″ with 625mm ETT (459mm reach). This will be good for anyone 5’7 to about 6’1 with suitably sized bar and stem.

– Constructed from seamless, double butted 4130 cromo.
– 30.9 seatpost with internal dropper routing.
– Boost spacing front and rear.
– EC34 headset standard.
– IS brake mounts front and rear.
– 73mm threaded BB standard EBB insert.
– Frameset includes frame, fork, seatclamp, EBB insert, thru axles and all mounting bolts
– 3 cage mounts on main triangle, triple mounts on fork legs, front and rear rack mounts.

Chamaechorie

Das ein Tumbleweed auch ein Fahrrad sein kann, hat die deutsche wikipedia allerdings noch nicht gemerkt. Ist aber vielleicht auch ganz normal, da Tumbleweed kaum mehr als eine Projektbezeichnung ist.

Das Tumbleweed entstand in den langen Abenden am Feuer in Patagonia, als Daniel Molloy (http://www.tumbleweed.cc/about/) mit Cass Gilbert (http://www.whileoutriding.com/) über das perfekte Offroadabenteuerentdeckerfahrrad diskutierte.

Herausgekommen ist dabei ein Stahlrahmen der 26×4″-Reifen mit einer 135er (also normalen) Rohloff und einem normal breiten (73mm) Tretlager verbindet. Alternativ können aber auch 29×3,0″ oder 27,5×3,25″ gefahren werden. Dazu gibt es auch vorne eine Maulweite von 135mm, so daß z.B. ein Singlespeedlaufrad als Reserve gefahren werden kann. Und es gibt Gewinde für alles mögliche wie z.B. Gepäckträger, Schutzbleche, 3 Flaschenhalter, Gewinde an der Gabel.

The Klunkus

29+ scheint mir zumindest für große Fahrer ein Super Ding zu werden. Es hat einige der Vorteile von Fatbikes, durch die bisher aber relativ geringe Mehrbreite zum normalen 29er ist die Verwendung von normalen Naben möglich und für mich würde das heißen: hinten eine Rohloff montieren.

Langsam wächst auch die Menge an Bikes und das Retrotec 29+ Klunkus (Curtis Inglis) ist mich aktuell der Favorit. Das Klunkus wurde wohl zunächst für die North American Handmade Bike Show entworfen.
